Lifelong West Duluthian Announces Candidacy for District 5 City Council

Duluth, MN –   Lifelong Western Duluthian Jeanne Koneczny announced her candidacy for 5th District Duluth City Council today. “I’m running because I am passionate about Duluth, and Western Duluth specifically.  My belief in our potential to thrive when we work together is absolute.  I have always said that if you want to make a difference, get out there and work for it, don’t sit back and just complain about things.  I want to be collaborative in finding solutions to improve our quality of life; better streets and infrastructure, reducing crime and drug problems and helping families achieve homeownership so they can stay in Duluth and put their talents to work here, not the Twin Cities”.

Koneczny’s experience is unparalleled. She has served on the Duluth Planning Commission, Western Lake Superior Sanitary District Board, West Duluth Business Club Board (two terms as President), SVCNDA (Spirit Valley Citizens Neighborhood Development Association) original board member and former interim executive director, neighborhood representative for the St. Louis River Interlake/Duluth Tar Site Super fund, City of Duluth Board of Zoning Appeals and dozens of other committees and citizen groups.

Koneczny feels that Western Duluth “holds the gold” for growth in Duluth with manufacturing zones, industrial zones, underdeveloped riverfront and opportunities for new housing developments.  Her experience and vision for the 5th District will serve her constituents well and propel Western Duluth forward.

The campaign will officially kick off at 5 pm Tuesday, May 21st with a reception at Gannucci’s Italian Market at 301 N. Central Avenue in Duluth.  Come meet the candidate for the 5th who will work tirelessly to ensure positive change will happen in your neighborhood.
